There are many types of disease that can affect horses. We will put them into two categories.
These diseases mean that positive cases need to be notified to the animal health office, then Government gets involved and takes over control of how proven cases are managed.
These diseases don't require notification for positive cases, but all horse owners have a responsibility to seek appropriat treatment from their vet if they suspect that their horse has contracted the disease. Below is a list of the more common non-notifiable diseases because each of us can have a big impact on reducing the spread of them.
Equine Influenza (EI or 'flu')
Strangles
Equine Herpes Virus (EHV)
