British Horseback Archery Association joins British Equestrian as its newest member body

Thursday, 17 April 2025

British Equestrian can announce the British Horseback Archery Association (BHAA) has officially joined as a new member body.

This partnership marks an exciting step forward for the growth and development of horseback archery in the UK. It also expands the range of disciplines British Equestrian (BEF) supports and promotes, helping equestrians engage in a diverse range of activities.

As the national governing body for horseback archery, the BHAA is dedicated to promoting participation, standards and access to the sport, providing training, competitions and opportunities for riders of all levels to engage with this captivating equestrian sport.

“We’re very pleased to be working with BHAA and to be able to support the growth and delivery of an exciting discipline,” commented Jim Eyre, Chief Executive of British Equestrian. “Horseback archery is a unique discipline that combines a relationship of ultimate trust between horse and rider with skills of precision and focus, and we look forward to collaborating on their continued development, helping more people enjoy a wide range of equestrian sports.”

Becoming a British Equestrian member body means the two organisations can work together to grow the sport of horseback archery by supporting projects, improving accessibility and encouraging participation at all levels with the highest standards of governance afforded by the BEF umbrella.

The BHAA will be integrated into the federation network, enabling collaboration across a wider range of disciplines, project support, shared resources, knowledge exchange and increased opportunities for horseback archery to grow alongside other equestrian sports at all levels.

Becca Sweetman, Chair of the BHAA commented, “Joining British Equestrian marks an exciting new chapter for the BHAA. Horseback archery is a sport that combines the power of the horse with the precision of the archer, demanding balance, focus and a deep connection between horse and rider. It’s accessible to all. You can do it for fun, you can take part in local competitions, or you can train hard and target selection for the British Team. We’re thrilled to bring this ancient discipline to wider audiences and invite more riders to experience the unique challenge and the joy it offers.”
