Charlotte began her equestrian career in showing at a young age; her interest in dressage started in 2007 when she went for lessons with Carl Hester. After several lessons and a short time spent working on the yard, Carl offered her a full time position as a rider.
Charlotte made her Grand Prix debut in January 2011 with a then nine year old Valegro and won. A member of the first dressage team to win a gold medal that same year, Charlotte went to her first Olympic Games in 2012 and returned with two gold medals to her name. The combination went on to win five team medals and seven Individual golds for Great Britain at Championship level. Charlotte was awarded an OBE in the 2013 New Year Honours List, and a CBE in 2017.
Together they concurrently held World, European and Olympic champion titles and still hold the world records in the Grand Prix (87.460%, Olympia CDI-W 2014); Grand Prix Special (88.022%, Hagen CDI4* 2012) and Grand Prix Freestyle (94.300%, Olympia CDI-W 2014) tests.
Charlotte debuted Mount St John Freestyle at national Grand Prix in March 2018 with 81%, before a double of wins at their international competition in April 2018. Charlotte and Freestyle went on to represent Great Britain at the World Equestrian Games at Tryon in 2018, securing team and individual bronze, and were part of the team that competed at the FEI European Championships in 2019.
Charlotte now brings forward 'pocket rocket' Gio for his championship debut in Tokyo.
