British Equestrian are now accepting applications for the 2021/2022 Young Professionals Programme cohort.
The Young Professionals Programme is designed to support young people in the equestrian industry in creating a career development plan, and gaining the skills and confidence they need to handle different situations that can occur in the workplace. Delivered over a series of interactive workshops with specialist speakers, the programme covers a broad range of topics essential to running a business, ranging from contract-writing, employment law, insurance and finances, to conflict management, communication skills and building a personal brand.
With the equestrian industry recovering from the impact of COVID-19, the programme is looking to support the personal and career development of young people who have their own business or are looking to start one in the future.
“I have made lots of new friends from being on the programme, which is brilliant because we can bounce ideas off each other whenever we need help or advice,” comments Ben Perry, who was part of the 2020/21 cohort. “I’ve picked up a huge amount of knowledge and a set of skills to improve the running of a business.”
David Hamer, Head of Performance Pathways at British Equestrian, adds: “The last 18 months have highlighted more than ever the need to provide support to young people as they enter the workplace. The Young Professionals Programme provides a bespoke package of support and education that helps a young rider make the transition into the equestrian workforce. The overall programme aim is to equip them with the confidence and skillset to succeed and thrive in our industry.”
The British Equestrian Young Professionals Programme is an established 12-month programme that has been running since 2017, funded by Sport England and delivered in collaboration with British Dressage, British Eventing and British Showjumping.
