The team at British Equestrian is passionate about the role sport and physical activity play in our wellbeing and when interactions involve horses, the benefits are multiplied. As part of our wider work to gather meaningful data and help to promote our industry, we’re launching an ambitious project to determine the social value of equestrian activity across the UK, exploring the myriad ways in which our industry contributes to the nation’s wellbeing.
As part of the initial project phase, we’re seeking an equally ambitious and suitably experienced individual or organisation to gather evidence, building the most definitive picture yet of the broad impact that equestrian activity has on the health of the UK.
Two decades of published research have given us a great starting point. Many children and adults from a variety of backgrounds enjoy learning to ride and take part in a variety of equestrian activities, with off-the-horse activities including equine assisted therapy continuing to engage more people. We are keen to explore the multitude of ways in which equestrian activity contributes to society to help British Equestrian along with our member bodies to build new insights that inform our future strategic direction and operational planning.
To collate all evidence that currently exists on the benefits of participating in equestrian activities to enable us to have a broader understanding of the advantages of equestrian related activities across the sector.
This call for evidence will then inform the second stage, which we hope to run in the later part of this year; the calculation and quantifying of the personal, community and societal impact, defining the unique benefits of horse-human interactions.
Mandana Mehran Pour, British Equestrian’s Head of Participation and Development explains, “As our sport continually grows and develops its offerings, with initiatives working to engage people across the country in so many ways, it’s important that we understand the impact our sector has within the wider picture of health and wellbeing of the nation.”
