As the nation celebrated the first anniversary of Their Majesties’ Coronation, British Equestrian (BEF) is proud and honoured to receive confirmation that Her Majesty The Queen will remain as patron of the organisation. Just days after the news from Buckingham Palace, The Queen visited the 75th anniversary MARS Badminton Horse Trials on Sunday 12 May in her role as BEF patron and presented the prizes alongside hosts the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort.
A lifelong equestrian, The Queen became the first patron of British Equestrian in 2006 and has been steadfast in her dedication to helping raise the profile of equestrianism, promoting the benefits of the equine-human bond and supporting all who interact with horses. The Queen has been a key advocate for the sector and the Federation is grateful for her continued support and commitment.
“We are delighted that Her Majesty is retaining patronage with us,” said Malcolm Wharton CBE, Chair of British Equestrian. “Her passion for all aspects of equestrianism – the horse, the people, the sport – is clear, as was evident in her meeting with the participants and organisers and watching the exciting jumping rounds at Badminton last Sunday.
A recent review was carried out of the 100 patronages under the former Duchess of Cornwall and British Equestrian, the national federation of horse sports, was among 91 retained.
