Information event for Equestrian Coaching Level 4 is going online

Thursday, 07 May 2020

In these most challenging of circumstances, we are delighted to be able to confirm that we will be opening up the application process for the next cohort of coaches to our Level 4 Coaching Certificate programme. This cohort will have scheduled entry onto the programme from September 2020.

What is Level 4?

The British Equestrian Level 4 Coaching Certificate (endorsed by UKCC) is a bespoke programme created to develop your skills and knowledge to further your coaching. The Level 4 qualification is for high-performing coaches with considerable experience and it involves an advanced syllabus of professional academic education. It isn’t exclusive to coaches working in a high-performance environment – we've had coaches from Pony Club and Riding for the Disabled in addition to those from the Olympic sports and beyond.

Information Day

The first element in the whole process is the information day.  This year, this will be in three stages:

  1. Stage one will be a live webinar hosted by us at British Equestrian to provide you with an overview of the programme, plus a chance to hear the reflections of one of our most recent graduates. This will take place on Tuesday 12 May from 10am to 12pm.
  2. Stage two is a video recording. Coaches who participate in stage one will be given a link to a recorded video from our partner, the University of Gloucestershire. Participants will be invited to watch this webinar in advance of stage three.
  3. Stage three is a live webinar on Thursday 14 May, hosted by the University of Gloucestershire, which will cover
    • the academic component to the Level 4 programme – the Post Graduate Diploma – and the study units involved
    • the University processes, including setting up on the University system
    • the additional wrap-around support the University provides
    • an academic discussion based on the recorded webinar participants have watched

Participating in these webinars isn't a prerequisite to applying for the course, but we would strongly recommend that any coach considering the Level 4 Programme to participate in both these webinars. If any coach is interested in the Level 4 programme, but is unable to attend either of the webinars, we will make the presentations available to any who registers.

Who can apply?

The pre-requisite for consideration for the Level 4 qualification is either a Level 3 Equestrian Coaching Certificate in general riding or one of the equestrian disciplines or at least a BHS Stage 4 Senior Coach in Complete Horsemanship (this includes Stage 5 Performance Coach in Complete Horsemanship and a Fellow of the BHS) or a Riding for the Disabled Advanced Coach. Readiness for the Level 4 Programme will be assessed via the application process and face to face interviews.  Prior qualifications at the right level does not guarantee access to this programme.

We hope you'll join us
