Monday, 20 September 2021

Britain’s Roger Campbell battled his way to individual silver this weekend in the Pony Pairs Class at the FEI Driving World Championships in Haras du Pin in the Normandy region of France, with the British team also finishing seventh.

Driving chestnut ponies Arvalon Braint, Dango 9 and Montie 3, owned by Christof Weihe, Roger, who’s originally from Devon but is now based in Germany, faced a tough battle with Rodinde Rutjens from the Netherlands, with exceptionally close competition over the three days.

In the dressage, Roger, contesting his fifth World Championships, completed in 11th place, A spectacular marathon phase, which was very technical but where he placed in first, brought him up to silver overall. An ball early in the cones course piled the pressure on, but he was clear and inside the time the rest of the way to clinch silver.

The five-member British team finished seventh overall.
