Andrew Gould

Rider Profile

Name:
Andrew Gould
Location:
Horsham, West Sussex

Andrew grew up in London and the first sports he took part in where rugby, football and athletics. He soon turned to riding ponies, though, and was a member of his local Pony Club. Like his childhood hero, Olympic medallist Ian Stark, his first love was eventing rather than dressage. With aspirations of being a cowboy, Andrew was often known as ‘the boy with the chaps’, due to his preference of wearing long chaps with tassels while in the saddle.

He started dressage at the age of 12 and was lucky enough to have a lesson with Carl Hester shortly after his return from the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992.

Andrew made his international debut as part of the British team at the FEI Young Rider Dressage European Championship in 2000 riding Koffee Break, and the pair received a second call-up the following year.

In 2022, Andrew achieved his childhood dream of riding at the London International Horse Show, when he and Indigro took part in the UK leg of the FEI Dressage World Cup series.

The second team selection came in May 2023, when Andrew and Indigro were part of the British squad for the FEI Dressage Nations Cup leg at Compiègne, then again for the Rotterdam leg in June. At Rotterdam, they also finished third in the Grand Prix Special.

Andrew’s 17-year-old son, Oliver, was part of the British Dressage team who won bronze at the FEI Young Rider European Championship in Austria in July 2024. He has another son, Louis, and a daughter called Ophelia.
